THE ART THAT THE DISNEY FILM COCO IS BASED ON, AT USHUAÏA IBIZA.

06 June, 2018

The works of art that inspired Disney Pixar film Coco, 2018 Academy Award-winner for Best Animated Feature Film, are exhibited until October in The TowerUshuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. Jacobo and María Ángeles are responsible for this workshop-school, whose pieces reproduce Alebrije craftsmanship. They have been working in this space for more than 35 years, where they create exclusive hand-crafted pieces and offer significant support to the local community thanks to their constant involvement in youth work and training programmes.

In total, there are 17 pieces that come from the south of Mexico, specifically from San Martín Oaxaca, which are based on Zapotec culture. Hand-carved wooden figures with mineral and acrylic pigments, a collection of the different animals that represent the Zapotec calendar, a fusion of animals and humans. They are charms that, according to the birth date of the person wearing them, can be a chameleon, an iguana, a jaguar, a snail, a turtle... The artists said during the opening: “In each of our pieces we express our Zapotec culture, each symbol that they contain has a special meaning about the life in our village.”

With this new exhibition, Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel continues to show its support for art and culture and begins new projects that will develop throughout the season.
