ATLANTIS, A SECRET COVE IN IBIZA.

28 November, 2018

With its huge and almost geometrically-perfect rocks, Atlantis – Ibiza’s hidden cove – is one of the most read and talked-about places you’ll hear about when it comes to the island’s hidden secrets.

Atlantis is a fictitious name given to Sa Pedrera, a small cove in the Cala d’Hort nature reserve, opposite the huge and imposing Es Vedrà rock. It’s one of the places fans of the island look for most and it’s stunning – its unique features make any trip here a truly magical experience, with incredible views of Es Vedrà and the crystal-clear turquoise waters. It’s a diver’s paradise too, with an abundance of native marine wildlife and plants.

Whispers of legends across the island tell of these elements coming together to form a triangle with its own mystical energy. The legends take on their own force here thanks to the mythological landscape surrounding this special place.

Atlantis

The strange figures you can see around the cove come from a stone quarry which was in use mainly in the 16th Century. It was from there that stone was taken to construct Dalt Vila, the wall, and the Castillo de Ibiza, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When the hippies arrived later in the 1960s the place became a mecca and meeting place. And when they came they made their mark, sculpting forms in the stone like the Buddha’s head which you can still see in the cove.

Getting there isn’t easy… unless you have a private boat. If you want to discover the magic of Atlantis by sea, get in touch with The Ushuaïa Experience team to reserve a boat trip tailored perfectly to your needs. You can enjoy passing by the island’s most exclusive and tranquil hidden corners on your journey there too.

If you’d prefer to get there by land you need to follow the directions for Cala d’Hort from Sant Josep de Sa Talaia, minutes from the beautiful town of Es Cubells. Just before you get to Cala d’Hort you’ll see signs for the Torre des Savinar and a branch off the road to take you to a car park. From there you can walk down a rough path (not for everyone!) and you’ll get to the magnificent cove of Atlantis in around half an hour. Remember to bring your comfy shoes!
